All In at the 2012 Dream Factory Poker Tournament

Here at Socket, we love a good poker tournament. Last fall, we hosted our own casino night for employees, as well as their friends and family members.

So when we decided to sponsor the 2012 Dream Factory Poker Tournament, we sent half a dozen of our best superstar players to represent us.

Unfortunately, they didn't come away winners (our top finisher placed 17th), but they sure had a blast!

The event, held on April 27 in Columbia, helped raise funds for the Central Missouri Dream Factory, which grants dream vacations to critically and chronically ill children.

A great time and a great cause. We were so glad to be a part of it!

Ducks, Big Questions and Eager Shoppers at the Sedalia Home & Lifestyle Show

Our Socketeers joined more than 50 vendors and service providers for the Sedalia Home and Lifestyle Show on March 10-11.

We enjoyed answering your questions, and you had some good ones! We talked about everything from from our upcoming service expansions in the Sedalia area to general email and technology related questions.

One gentleman even asked, “What is the Internet?” It was a pretty big topic to tackle, but he seemed pretty satisfied by our explanation.

Ducky neighbors at the Sedalia, MO Home ShowOur Woods Supermarket raffle was a HUGE hit and we would like to congratulate LaVerne G. of Sedalia, MO for winning. We know her next shopping trip will be a fun one!

And when things slowed down toward the end of the weekend, we had a blast making new friends in the booth across from us. Our favorite thing about ducks is that they have "webbed" feet (ha, ha!).

We really enjoyed our weekend in Sedalia and hope to come back again soon!

Our Hy-Vee raffle was a success and congratulations to Renee K. of Columbia, MO for winning the coveted $100 gift card.

More Than $6,000 Donated to Local Non-Profits

We hosted representatives from local mid-Missouri non-profit agencies on Thursday, February 2, to pass out some checks through Socket's Honest to Goodness Charity Donation Program.

This fourth round of donations totaled $6,171.85 in donations for 73 charitable organizations, bringing the total for the past two years to more than $18,000.

Through the program, customers of Socket's Home Phone + Internet bundles in Columbia and Jefferson City can designate a local charity to receive 5% of their bill for their first year of service. Donations are distributed twice per year.

We're so excited to see what these non-profit organizations can do for our community with these funds. Thanks to our customers for joining with us to give back to the community through this program!

To learn more about the Honest to Goodness Program, including a list of top-earning charities for this round of donations, please visit www.socket.net/homephone/charities.

450+ smiles...just in time for the holidays

Remember how awesome it was to get new toys for the holidays when you were a kid?Socket donation to Toys for Tots

The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program makes that joy and excitement possible for even more families, delivering toys to needy children throughout the holiday season.

It's a great program. So instead of sending our clients yet another tin of holiday popcorn, we   bought toys for needy children in their names.

In all, more than 450 toys were donated to the program, including puzzles, board games, dolls, cars and more.

Program volunteers worked with local social welfare agencies, church groups and other community agencies to ensure that the shiny, new toys were delivered to local Missouri children in time for Christmas.

Governor Nixon joins Socket to Break Ground on Rural Fiber Project

Socket and construction workers break ground with Mo Governor Jay Nixon.Socket held a ceremony Wednesday, October 19, to celebrate the groundbreaking of its fiber-to-the-home network in rural Boone and Callway Counties.

The event was held at the Millersburg Christian Church, the site of one of Socket's huts to house equipment for the new network.

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon praised the project and other efforts to expand broadband throughout Missouri.

"Through our state and local partnership, area schools, courthouses, hospitals, public safety agencies and libraries across the state soon will be able to provide faster, more reliable Internet service," Governor Nixon said. "Students in the biggest cities to the smallest towns will have access to the same next-generation learning tools. Missouri businesses, whether at the forefront of innovation or in a storefront on Main Street, will be able to grow, succeed and prosper. Missouri broadband is a step in the right direction, and together, we're moving forward."

Construction crews have already begun boring holes for conduit piping that will house the fiber-optic cable. The first customers should be activated before the end of the year

Jefferson City Business Showcase a Success!

We had a great time at this week's Jefferson City Business Showcase.Fax to email is explained at Socket's booth at the Jefferson City, MO Business Showcase.

It gave us the chance to debut our brand new fax-to-email service!

Think about what your office may have looked like many years ago. All the outdated equipment you've probably ditched throughout the years--old phones, big computer monitors and so on.

Now you can ditch that clunky old fax machine for good, too! We showed our customers a quick demo of how simple and easy faxing can be.

(If you missed the show, that's OK. Learn all about fax-to-email here.)

The show was also a great opportunity for us to catch up with all our local business clients.

Socket reps answer questions from a visitor at the Jefferson City Business Showcase. Our team of account reps and engineers--many of them from Jefferson City themselves--answered questions about our services and what's new at Socket. It was great to see so many familiar faces!

Even though the show's over, the van's unpacked and our outdated office equipment is back in the basement, we're still here to answer your questions, seven-days-a-week.

Give us a call at 1-800-762-5383, or stop by our new Jefferson City office at 500 Broadway, Suite B.
